Where I'll be, what I'm doing.
It's Fellow Selection Day again for the next cohort for Venture for Canada. Nearly 1000 of the brightest graduates from Canada's top universities will be vying for a small number of positions within some of the country's top startups. I'm thrilled to be a judge again this year!
Organized by the Minister of Small Business & Tourism, I'm honoured to be a guest speaker at the Canadian Women's Entrepreneurship Conference in Toronto, where I'll be a part of a panel discussion on the importance of mentorship and sponsorship.
Startup culture is a hot topic. Hosted by Venture for Canada and Lighthouse Labs, I'll be moderating a panel of notable startup veterans on October 4th, where we'll talk about anything and everything having to do with startup culture.
Come and join us! Here's the registration link.
On June 22nd, I'll be at the Ontario College of Art & Design's Imagination Catalyst – their entrepreneurship hub and incubator – for one of their weekly 'Chat n Chew' sessions (love the name!). This informal conversation and Q&A will be about essential people practices for startups – including recruitment, hiring, and compensation. Looking forward to the conversation and meeting some creative entrepreneurs!
I'm really looking forward to meeting Canadian entrepreneurs from across the country at Futurpreneur's annual Action Entrepreneurship Summit on May 31st in Toronto. I'll be giving a talk called: "People & Culture: Two Key Ingredients You Can't Afford To Get Wrong" during one of the break-out sessions.
One of the things I enjoy doing most is speaking to entrepreneurs and small business owners about people & culture, and the next few months will be busy for me:
March 1st: As part of the Catapult program at Enactus UofT, I'll be speaking to a group of immigrant women entrepreneurs on leadership and team-building
April 5th: I'm at the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre talking about best practices for hiring employee #1
May 31st: At Futurpreneur's annual Action Entrepreneurship National Summit, I'll be delivering a workshop called "People & Culture: Two Key Ingredients You Can't Afford To Get Wrong"
June 15th: As part of Venture for Canada's Training Camp for their new Fellows about to begin work at some of Canada's top startups, I'll be talking about some of the things to watch out for from a people and culture perspective
Looking forward to participating in Futurpreneur's Action Entrepreneurship Community Exchange on January 27th. I'll be involved in the 'Ask an Expert' part of the program again, and ready to field some tough questions from some really bright entrepreneurs!
